My Guru

My guru and mentor is Prabhat Ranjan Sarkar (1922–1990) also known as Shrii Shrii Anandamurti or Baba (Father) to his disciples. He was a spiritual guru, philosopher, and composer. He founded Ananda Marga (the Path of Bliss) in 1955 as a spiritual and social service organization that continues to offer instruction in meditation and yoga. Sarkar was born in Jamalpur, India, and from a very early age he exhibited many extraordinary abilities, such as practicing meditation without learning it from a teacher; initiating much older persons in meditation; displaying great knowledge of languages, spiritual concepts, medicine, and various other topics, all gained without the help of teachers or books.

He trained hundreds of yogic missionaries (acharyas and avadhutas) to spread his teachings of “self-realization and service to humanity” all over India and then throughout the world. The Ananda Marga organization eventually grew to become a large and multifaceted organization with members in over 130 countries, having different branches dedicated to the physical, psychic, and spiritual advancement of humanity.

Anandamurti became known as a spiritual teacher, scientist, philosopher, neohumanist, social theorist, linguist, artist, and economist. He wrote over two hundred books on various subjects, such as history, spirituality, sociology, education, Tantra, yoga, medicine, ethics, psychology, humanities, linguistics, economics, ecology, farming, music, and literature. He gave several thousand discourses and composed over five thousand mystical songs known as Prabhat Samgiita (Songs of the New Dawn).

He taught a system of yoga, meditation, and other spiritual practices to achieve all-around physical, mental, and spiritual development with the ultimate goal of spiritual union with cosmic consciousness.
